I served on the USS Benjamin Franklin (SSBN 640) Gold Crew from 1987 to 1991. Miss that boat and the guys I served with. Qualified ELT and loved the challenge. Remember the "fun runs" and the infamous "steel beach picnics.

My time on the *USS Hammerhead* was… unforgettable. 78-82, right through the height of the Cold War. Always felt like we were on the edge of something big, you know? Heard stories from the old salts about close calls in the Med, tailing Soviet subs for weeks on end. They always kept their eyes peeled.
I'm heading down to the USSVI anniversary this year. Figured it's time to swap some more sea stories with the guys and remember those days. Anyone else going? Would love to hear some of your own Cold War submarine tales before then. What boats were you on? Any interesting encounters? Especially interested in anything from the *Hammerhead* era. Let's keep those memories alive..

I spent a lot of time thinking about my time on the 671 during my last patrol and I was wondering if anyone else feels the same way. I was on board from 78-83, and the things I saw will never leave me. I served with some amazing guys and it's something I'm proud of. I'm a member of the USSVI now and it's a good way to stay connected. I think anyone who served on a boat should join, especially the old ones. It's important that these boats are remembered. I still remember the smell of diesel and the feeling of the boat diving. I even miss the food..

Mare Island Naval Museum has an "operational" ops center and GREAT sub museum. Also the Sail from the MG Vallejo is there. Great place for a reunion
